When was the last time that you & the guys all got together for a weekend away? If you can’t remember, that means you’re well overdue for another catch up!

Whether you’re looking for an action-packed weekend or something a little more relaxing, Australia is full of incredible places to head for a few days away with your mates. Here, we’ve made a list of the 5 best destinations for a boy’s weekend away…

If you want to feel like you’re on a tropical holiday without actually leaving the country, then Cairns is the perfect destination for your weekend away with the boys. Located in the tropics of Far North Queensland, Cairns is easily accessible from all of Australia’s major capital cities, with Cairns Airport only a 15-minute drive from the city centre.

Once you’re there, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do. In the city, you’ll find a number of great cafes, restaurants and bars, with the city truly coming to life after dark. A popular tourist destination, Cairns is full of people ready to party, so if a few wild nights out are what you’re looking for, you’ll find it on the Esplanade!

A visit to Cairns is definitely not complete without a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef. A number of tours depart from the marina every day, taking you to a variety of islands and reefs for swimming and snorkelling fun. After you’re done getting wet, you can head to the World-Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest, which is about two-hours’ drive north of Cairns. Here, you can explore the tropical rainforest while keeping an eye out for some of Australia’s most diverse wildlife!

Only an hour from the Melbourne CBD, the Mornington Peninsula is jam-packed with things to do on a boy’s weekend away. If you and the guys are golf fanatics, you’ll be spoilt for choice with 15 clubs with 19 links, parkland and resort courses set just minutes apart by car. The views from the peninsula will be some of the best you’ve ever seen from a golf course!

You’ll be hungry after a full day of golf, and luckily there are plenty of places to eat and drink on the Mornington Peninsula. Home to a number of cellar doors, craft breweries, gastro pubs and top restaurants, you’ll have trouble choosing where to start!

If a relaxed, surfing weekend is on the cards, look no further than Australia’s home of surfing – Byron Bay. Home to Australia’s most easterly point, Byron Bay is perfect for a boy’s weekend at the beach. Spend your days surfing the famous Wategos Beach before heading out to enjoy some of the town’s vibrant live music scene. There are plenty of awesome bars and pubs to enjoy too!

If you’re feeling a bit dusty the next morning (a few too many beers will do that), then a walk to the iconic Cape Byron lighthouse is sure to get the blood pumping again. If all else fails, just jump back into the surf!

Don’t worry, if you’re not much of a surfer, there are plenty of other activities to get around in Byron Bay. Why not take to the skies and see the town from above? You can go skydiving over the beach, or if jumping out of a plane isn’t your thing, you can enjoy the same views from the safety of a hot-air balloon.

Byron Bay is also super easy to get to, with plenty of domestic flights flying into Ballina Byron Airport and Coolangatta Airport just over the Queensland border.

If your mates love the outdoors, then a trip to the Australian Alps is a must for your boy’s weekend away. It doesn’t matter if you ski or board, a trip to the snow is always full of action and of course, après ski!

Jindabyne, a small town in south-east NSW, is the perfect base for your snow trip. Choose from nearby ski resorts like Perisher or Thredbo to spend your days shredding powder before heading back into Jindabyne for some well-deserved beers. Don’t forget to check out the Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery on your way from the ski fields – one taste will warm you up for the rest of the night!

Melbourne may be the ultimate destination for a boy’s weekend away. Why, you may ask? It truly has something for everyone!

Choose from a huge variety of major sporting events like tennis, AFL, rugby league and cricket, depending on what time of year you visit - Melbourne is a massive hub for sports fans and there is always something on. For those looking to check out the nightlife, the city’s Crown Casino is perfect for a boy’s night out. Full of incredible restaurants, gaming floors and multiple bars and clubs, the casino is a great spot to start (or end) your evening!

No matter what time of year, how many people or what you want to do, you can see that there are plenty of great destinations for a boy’s weekend away in Australia. Which destination would you choose? Tell us in the comments!
